Gordon Frickers by invitation created a one man show of 35 paintings (May 2011) at the European Parliament, Brussels, an impressive addition to his list of exhibitions in other prestigious venues in Britain and Europe.

The Hermione frégate rendered distinguished service, becoming famous for a number of reasons.

L’Hermione frégate, the painting is a careful a study of the original frégate Hermione, the painting being intended to compliment the magnificent replica frigate built at Rochefort sur mere, launched 2014.

Frigates were fast and relatively manoeuvrable, frigates were single main gun deck ships. The Hermione frégate was intended for independent patrols, scouting, a courier and to be the eyes of a fleet.

The Marquis de Lafayette personally transferred to the Hermione frégate during the American War of Independence.
The new Hermione is built for adventure on the high seas.

The French frigate “Hermione”, la Frégate de la Liberté used by Gilbert du Motier, marquis de La Fayette, significantly helped Americans win their war of independence and liberties.
Captain Yann Cariou, an ex-naval officer in command of the replica launched 2014, said “Above all there will be emotion. It’s still the Hermione and nobody has navigated a ship like this for two centuries“.
