The two ships shown here were the “Marques” and the “Maria Asumpta“, at that time residents of Charlestown.

As an artist living nearby behind Par Beach I knew them both well, sailed on Maria Asumpta, the last and at that time oldest 19 th century merchant ship and I still occasionally visit the lovely Port of Charlestown.
