Ben Ainslie is seen here, looking alert, relaxed and quietly confident, on course for his first of five Olympic gold medals (and one silver), a unique achievement.
Ben Ainslie is now Sir Ben Ainslie and he is outstanding as the all time most decorated Olympic sailor, an America’s Cup winner and very, very much more.

Ben Ainslie and Gordon Frickers co operated ashore and afloat working closely together while planning this painting and were assisted by members of Restonguet Sailing Club in particular Eddie Shelton, Ben’s first race sailing coach.

Ben and Gordon first met while Gordon, also being a very experienced small boat sailor (and boat builder), was helping coach the British Olympic Youth Squad at Weymouth.
Their ideas for this painting were further developed over an amicable family dinner in Gordon’s Plymouth home.
The Olympic games has inspired very few quality paintings of it’s sailors in action.
This makes this action portrait painting, a cooperation between Ben Ainslie and Gordon Frickers in 2001 the year after he won his second Olympic medal, his first gold, all the more extraordinary.
Ben and Gordon’s original objective when creating this painting was to encourage and support the development of youth sport sailing for all.
An arrangement with British Olympic Sailing remained unsigned, not least because the British Olympic Association was undergoing major personnel changes.
Gordon Frickers approaches the end of his painting career, thus the time has come to sell this prestigious painting and others of his major works still in stock.

Sir Ben Ainslie
is the most successful Olympic sailor of all time, keep in mind, a sailor can only win one medal for each Olympic Games, Ben won four golds and one silver medal over a 16 year period.
He won medals at five consecutive Olympics from 1996 onwards, including gold at four consecutive Games from 2000 to 2012.
This surpasses the Olympic Games wins in sailing of Torben Grael and Robert Scheidt, and the legendary Paul Elvstrøm.

Ben Ainslie’s originally sailed the Laser but he deliberately gained about 18 kilograms (40 lb; 2 st 12 lb) to be able to moved to the heavier weight Finn.
His gold medal-winning Laser and Finn dinghies are currently displayed at the National Maritime Museum, at Falmouth, Cornwall.
