Yamaha “First Challenge – First Victory”

Yamaha could have chosen any artist for their commemorative painting, Yamaha chose Gordon Frickers.

"Yamaha “First Challenge – First Victory”", 122 x 76 cm (48" x 30"), commissioned as a gift for Yamaha boardroom.

Painting produced after interviewing the crew at Southampton, a ‘full on’ marine painting, original, commissioned by Mitsui Machinery (Yamaha GB) and presented to the head of their parent company.

The painting

Paintings for marine art Yamaha, Mitsui Machinery (Yamaha GB).

The last I heard of this fine marine painting it was in the boardroom of Yamaha, Japan.

Original Commissioned by Mitsui Machinery (Yamaha GB) (Presented to the president of Yamaha (Japan) for the board room by Yamaha GB in appreciation of the support Yamaha gave their team.
Also used for their Christmas Card that year.)

This picture of a very high profile yacht was commissioned by Mitsui-Yamaha (GB), sponsors of the yacht, immediately the race finished.

I had to rush to Southampton to interview the crew and see the yacht, then complete the painting in 4 weeks.

I produced 2 paintings and gave the directors of Mitsui Machinery (Yamaha GB) a choice!

Of the entire voyage, the crew felt the best and most representational part was the final dash under storm spinnaker, past the Needles and Alum Bay, dashing up the Solent Water to the finish.

The boat was going at her best pace overtaking most of the press launches and the crew knew they were going to win!

The painting was presented to the president of Yamaha (Japan) by Yamaha GB to commemorate their achievement in winning the Whitbread 60 Heineken Trophy (round the world race), now known as the Volvo Ocean race – I was told it has been hung in the H.Q. boardroom in Japan.

Many distinguished people and renowned companies have chosen Frickers paintings as you can discover by reading my illustrated résumée.

Gordon Frickers is the only marine artist whose paintings have been honoured by invitation to exhibit in the European Parliament, a one man show of 35 (May 2011) as well as exhibitions in other prestigious venues in Britain and Europe.

Yamaha’s added value

the picture was also reproduced at the request of Mitsui-Yamaha as a Christmas card.
